Gauge H0 at Mannheim: Waukegan and Kenosha Terminal (W&K Terminal)

This layout was designed for maximum play and fun.  A lot of time was invested in order to create a true-to-life layout that does not exist as an original. It depicts a marshalling terminal that is actually located between the cities of Waukegan IL and Kenosha WI in the USA. On the shunting track, the wagons can switch from one side to the other. The compact little layout is 3 metres wide and 60 cm deep. The height to the top of the rails is 1.30 metres and the entire height is 1.80 m - a bit like a puppet show. Because there are 17 sets of points, they are controlled by computer. The rest of the layout is DCC controlled and the trains are driven by hand controls. The landscape material is predominantly from the USA, the tracks are by PECO (UK). The rolling stock is from various US manufacturers and the railway company is Milwaukee Road. On display is a WIAD functional crane from the 1960s, which has been converted to digital and modified to suit the purpose. Other highlights include two illuminated advertising billboards.
