From March 6 to 8, 2026, the Maimarkthalle Mannheim will once again become a meeting place for model railway enthusiasts. For three days, FASZINATION MODELLBAHN will be all about fascinating miniature worlds, technical innovations, and genuine craftsmanship. Visitors can look forward to a trade fair experience that combines the latest trends, high-quality products, and impressive displays—a highlight for the whole family.
The trade fair offers technology enthusiasts, model railway fans, and professionals a comprehensive overview of the latest trends and innovations in the model railway industry. Renowned manufacturers, associations, and clubs present various display layouts and their history, as well as numerous opportunities to participate, craft, play, and purchase. Amidst miniature worlds that combine the past and present, exhibitors from all over the world present an impressive variety of gauges, state-of-the-art technology, model railway software, accessories, and many other highlights related to model railways. Visitors can experience the entire fascinating world of miniatures and discover something new again and again.
New products, technology, and accessories
The hobby of model railway construction opens doors to other realities, promotes creativity and manual dexterity, and sharpens skills. Visitors to the model railway exhibition can expect an impressive selection from over 40 product categories. The range extends from locomotives and carriages to analogue and digital control components, delicate figures, buildings, lighting elements and equipment details from a wide variety of eras. Landscape and nature design also plays an important role: materials for realistic terrain models, greenery and lifelike backdrops offer a wide range of possibilities for the individual design of layouts.
The various exhibitors will be presenting their latest developments. Märklin will be showcasing a wide range of new products for railway enthusiasts of all gauges. In addition to high-quality models and control components, materials for landscaping and interior design will also be on display. Visitors can find out about the latest innovations that take the model railway experience to a whole new level. As every year, Herpa will be bringing its exclusive trade fair model: a Mercedes Sprinter in FASZINATION MODELLBAHN design – a special collector’s item for trade fair visitors. The wide variety of exhibitors, exciting new products and high-quality accessories make the trade fair equally attractive for beginners and experienced model railway professionals – there is something for everyone here.
Presentations and more
The Model Railway Forum inspires visitors with an impressive variety of topics and expertise, offering something exciting for everyone. This wide selection allows participants to take valuable knowledge home with them and gain new perspectives. As a highlight, guests can look forward to an exclusive selection of episodes from the popular television programme Eisenbahn-Romantik. The programme takes viewers on a fascinating journey through the world of railway technology – from historical masterpieces to modern innovations. There will also be a daily autograph session with Hagen von Ortloff.
Hands-on activities for all ages
At FASZINATION MODELLBAHN, visitors can not only marvel, discover and shop, but also actively immerse themselves in the action. Numerous interactive stations and a variety of hands-on activities invite visitors to get creative themselves: for example, children and young people are introduced to model railways at the Junior College Europe through independent building and playing at stations that build on each other in a meaningful way. In addition, there is a daily raffle with attractive prizes for participants. At the LEGO table with the track circle for the clip-on brick cars, everyone can give free rein to their creativity and build the craziest vehicles. And with the wooden railway, exciting routes can be put together and played with to your heart’s content.
At the Viessmann – kibri and Vollmer craft garden, interested visitors can pick up valuable tips on working with vehicle and building kits and gain insights into the world of electronics. The Märklin Erlebniswelt invites visitors to gain their first model railway experiences with the my world and Start Up product lines.
At MEC Waiblingen, visitors can gain insights into model design and digital control, while in the craft corner, young guests can assemble their own plastic kits and then creatively integrate them into a model landscape.
Visitors can also make their own customised wooden models at the Aichner craft corner and take them home with them. Another special eye-catcher is a fully functional LEGO railway set that is around 60 years old, complete with the popular LEGO puzzle.
Stationary steam models in action
Stationary steam model building combines an understanding of historical technology with the highest level of craftsmanship and precision. Many of the models on display are the result of years of detailed work and are based on original models from industry and craftsmanship. It is not just about the external appearance, but above all about the functional, true-to-scale implementation of the complex mechanics. Visitors can thus experience technological history in miniature – lively, authentic and impressive in its engineering sophistication.
